The Lofty Donkey has a smashing review of JD's new video game. Read about it here.
Hayworth has been trying to distance himself from President Bush for months. Given the fact that his campaign for reelection this year will not be his usuall walk in the park, JD has started stumping early.
In one of his latest appearances on Meet the Press, JD states that immigration is the ONLY campaign issue. The Republican camp is deeply divided on what should be done about this. The one, the only issue that JD does not agree with Bush about is immigration. Hayworth will be trying very hard to keep your eyes on that ball by trying to distract the voters by getting on the other side of Bush on the ONE AND ONLY topic Bush and JD disagree on. That is why Hayworth is trying to make this the ONE AND ONLY topic of the election.
What Hayworth does not want you to notice is that he has walked lock-step with the Bush administration and rest of the Republican Congress on issues such as the environment, the Iraq War, the tax cuts to the rich in time of war. Hayworth touts he is being responsible by going after those that break the law by allowing immigrants to stay, but does nothing when President Bush breaks the law by spying on Americans without a warrent. JD does not care that President Bush covered up his own role as the Leaker in Cheif regarding the CIA Plame Affair.
JD Hayworth is the same old blow-hard he's been for the past 8 years, but this time it's different. This time the American People need a Congressman that is responsible and supports policy based on the best interest if the American People rather than superficial rhetoric designed to only to boost his book sales.
During a discussion on April 6, 2006, on MSNBC's "Situation", Hayworth does not miss a beat in interjecting a flashy quote, "This bill is amnesty wrapped in bureaucracy, surrounded by fraud". The topic of the show is immigration reform in the Senate. The host of the show, Tucker Carlson, loves this quote so much he uses it as a teaser before the commercial.
Sometimes hot air is not as innocuous as it seems. Especially if you are making allegation of fraud while using fraudlet information to make your point.
That is just what Hayworth did. He has been spewing bogus statistics about the financial cost of current immigraiton policy in order to scare you and me where it counts the most. Right in the pocketbook.
Just two days ago in an interview for the National Review (see the next story),JD Hayworth says the following:
It costs Arizona about $750 million to educate the children of illegal immigrants and $400 million for nonreimbursed medical care. And then there is the crime and all the other social problems associated with illegal immigration. In fact, the Federation for American Immigration Reform estimates that illegal immigration costs each Arizonan almost $700 a year — a hidden tax that subsidizes illegal aliens and those who hire them.
The Thunderbird School of International Management in Phoenix, ranked number one in International Business for many years, put out a study in 2003 titled, “The Economic Impact of Arizona-Mexico Relationship”. The study concludes that immigrants contribute $599 million to Arizona in income and sales taxes each year, while costing the Arizona $250 million in services and $30 million in health care.
The Thunderbird Study is in direct conflict with the Federation for American Immigration Reform numbers spewed by Hayworth. According to the Thunderbird Study, there is a net gain of $319 million which equates to about $63 per year of a credit to each Arizonan, not the $700 per year “hidden tax” Hayworth claims.
It’s plain to see that Hayworth’s statements about immigrants causing Arizonans hidden taxes are wrapped in partainship and surrounded by fraud.
In an April 3rd interview with Kathryn Lopez of the National Review, Jd Hayworth has proclaimed that immigration "is not only just the biggist issue in the state (of Arizona); at this point it's the only issue".
Showing just how out of touch Hayworth is with his constituents, a very informal poll at MSNBC on April 7, polling about 14,000 people asked folks to choose what concerns you most. Three choices were given. The responses were first, Iraq with 46%, second, the economy at 29%, and dead last was immigration at 24%.
To add insult to injury, Hayworth continues his rant to Lopez by accusing all of the protesters in Phoenix last week of being illegal when he says “tens of thousands of illegal Mexicans protest on our streets, disrupt our cities, and intimidate our citizens”
Hayworth is referring to the protest that took place in downtown Phoenix on March 24, 2006. During this march, nobody was killed unlike the war in Iraq.
Hayworth goes on to say, “These recent protests also illustrate the sense of entitlement permeating the illegal alien mindset.”
That is very dangerous, racist rhetoric comming from JD Hayworth. Somebody should tell him 25% of Arizona’s citizens are Hispanic. If he can tell which ones are and which are not by looking at them, he needs to let Border Patrol in on that secret.
What happens when a federal judge rules in favor of a class action lawsuit that calls for Arizona schools to make an effort teach English to all students? Of course, Judges make decisions based on laws, so you simply pass a law that says you are in compliance. Laws trump Judges. Kind of like the rock, paper, scissors thing.
On April 6, 2006, one day after Judge Raner Collins rules on the adequacy of the recent Arizona legislation designed to fulfill provision in the lawsuit judgment of Flores vs. Arizona, JD Hayworth introduced house resolution 5105 in an attempt to bail out his state GOP buddies. This bill does nothing but state that Arizona is in compliance with “to clarify that Arizona is in compliance with the Equal Educational Opportunities Act of 1974 with respect to English language learners”.
There are no cosponsors of the resolution.
At best this silly resolution is a waste of public resources. At worst it is in violation of the constitution that protects the checks and balances of government. Hayworth has taken off his congressional hat in favor of a judges robe. That kind of knee-jerk logic is inherent to JD Hayworth and how he addresses the needs and problems of the people of Arizona.
The next question you must ask is why would he want to do such a thing? The lawsuit requires Arizona to teach English to every school student. Doesn’t JD want everyone to speak English? Isn’t this part of his immigration rant and his desire to assimilate culture in the United States? This philosophy comes straight out of his new book. Hayworth is simply trying to get his fellow GOP Arizona State legislators off the hook for passing an inadequate law in response to this lawsuit ruling.
The State GOP answer required no accountability for private schools, and lawmakers added so many reporting requirements on the public side it would be nearly impossible for a school to obtain the funds. Other provisions include imposing testing requirements on the schools that receive the funds, such as monthly testing of 300 randomly chosen students, including a check on whether they can read the letters of the alphabet, in random order, in 30 seconds or less.
Governor Napolitano vetoed the first two inadequate bills and let the third pass without her signature to alleviate Arizona from hemorrhaging money in court-mandated fines for missing the deadline. By not signing the third GOP attempt at compliance and letting it go to law, Napolitano has forced the presiding Judge Collins to rule on the adequacy of the legislation. Brilliant.
Hayworth is yet again jumping on the bandwagon with his main motivation to score points against Governor Napolitano rather than helping the children - children that are citizens of this country – learn English.
